Informed choice
You read the whole guide before anything happens.
Designed to make sure the experience is understood and freely chosen.
A guided intentional-darkness experience. No audio. No app. One mask, one eBook, one structured day. This page explains all of it.
Darkness is the environment. Intention is the practice.
The protocol
The order matters. Each stage prepares the next. Nothing during the six hours is improvised.
You read the whole guide before anything happens.
Designed to make sure the experience is understood and freely chosen.
One private space, cleared of hazards, water in reach, phone charged.
Designed to create the conditions the six hours depend on.
One person knows your start time, end time, and check-in plan.
Designed to put help one call away without putting anyone in the room.
Mask on, mask off, both hands, until it is automatic.
Designed to guarantee you can leave in seconds, unassisted, at any moment.
Three sentences: why now, what you hope to notice, what would make you stop.
Designed to set intention without demanding a result.
Continuous darkness. Nothing to perform. Water allowed. So is stopping.
Designed to deliver the interruption the whole practice points at.
Low light first, seated or lying down. No screens, no driving, no major decisions.
Designed to protect the return.
Completion review, then checkpoints at 24 hours, 7 days, and 30 days.
Designed to turn what you noticed into something that survives daily life.
Why darkness
Every waking hour, the visual world arrives with demands attached. Faces to read. Feeds to scroll. Rooms to interpret. Attention is not something you lose. It is something the world takes.
Remove light deliberately and the taking stops. What is left is quieter and harder to fake: your own thoughts, at their actual volume. Most people have not heard them in years.
This is not deprivation. It is subtraction with intent. Darkness is the environment. Intention is the practice.
Safety
Every protocol decision starts here. Calm, literal, non-negotiable.
Not for minors. Not for anyone in acute distress, or seeking treatment for a diagnosed condition. To Be Born is a structured practice, not therapy.
